MURUETA | First European hybrid oil tanker ship

Last April 20th, Murueta shipyards launched the 'Bahía Levante', an oil tanker ship with zero C02 emissions in the port.

With its double function of transporting hydrocarbons and supplying fuel to other vessels, the ship, will be handed over in December to the shipowner Mureloil, located in Algeciras and with its head office in Bilbao.

The 'Bahía Levante' is the first ship built in Europe with zero port emissions, according to Murueta, as a result of having diesel propulsion and a battery accumulator system.

With its 92.5 metres in length and 18 m beam, it will have a crew of eleven and a top speed of 12 knots.

The 'Bahía Levante' is ship number 325 in the history of Murueta, which was born in 1943, and for the moment, it is the culmination of a career that has been involved lately in designs pursing energy efficiency and the use of new fuels. Such as the 'Oiz Mendi', in 2018, the first ship supplying liquefied natural gas in Spain, and the 'Ibaizabal 15', in 2020, the first port tugboat using this type of fuel.
